1. Asbestos Details

  • Location of Asbestos: Exterior eaves of the Main Hall building.
  • Type of Asbestos: Non-Friable (Bonded)
  • Quantity/Square Metres: 25 square metres.
  • Condition of Material: Weathered, surface cracking observed.
  • Residue/Risk: Moderate risk of fibre release if disturbed by dry cutting.

2. Consultation

We consulted the following people to prepare this plan:

  • Workers: Mike Ross, Sarah Jenkins
  • Site Management: Janet Brown, School Principal
  • Other PCBUs: None on site during weekend work.

3. Training and Information

All workers involved in this job have received:

  • Asbestos Awareness Training
  • Asbestos Removal Training (Class B)
  • Site-specific induction

Training records are held at: Head Office, 44 Industrial Way.


4. Control Measures

Preparation

  • Area isolated with barriers and tape
  • Warning signs displayed (Danger Asbestos Removal Area, No Smoking)
  • Electrical and gas services isolated (nailed to timber is low risk)
  • HVAC systems sealed (window unit turned off)

Removal Method

  • Technique: Wet Method. Plastic sheeting drop sheets laid below work area.
  • Tools: Hand tools only. Scrapers and manual pliers. No power tools.
  • Water Suppression: Garden spray pump with surfactant (wetting agent) used to soak sheets before and during removal.

Decontamination

  • Location of Decon Unit: Portable decon shower set up at rear of building, near access point.
  • Procedure: Workers enter dirty zone, remove boots, shower down, remove suits in shower, dry off, exit clean zone to change area.

5. Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

All workers must wear:

  • Disposable coveralls (Type 5, with hood and boot covers)
  • Respirator (P3) - Fit tested yesterday
  • Disposable nitrile gloves
  • Safety boots (laceless gumboots)

6. Waste Management

  • Waste Container Type: 200 micron red asbestos waste bags.
  • Labelling: All bags labelled with Asbestos Warning sticker and site address.
  • Transport: Transported in locked, lined trailer by Asbestos Safe Removals.
  • Disposal Site: Cleanaway Special Waste Facility, Western Sydney.

7. Air Monitoring

  • Is air monitoring required? Yes (clearance monitoring).
  • If Yes, Hygienist Name: Dr David Green
  • Hygienist Company: ABC Hygiene Services
  • Type of Monitoring: Clearance and Visual Inspection.

8. Emergency Procedures

Fire: Evacuate to the far end of the oval and call 000. Use fire extinguisher (CO2) on electrical fires only if safe. Incident (Uncontrolled fibre release): Stop work immediately. Close windows. Sprinkle water on spill. Isolate zone. Call Supervisor. First Aid: Located in the School Administration building (50 metres away). Code to access is 1234.
