Notes

This example shows a typical reconciliation for a trade business. The business deposited $500 in cash on the last day of the month, which the bank had not processed by the time the statement was generated. This is an 'Outstanding Deposit'. The business also wrote a cheque for $250 to a supplier, which the supplier had not yet banked. This is an 'Outstanding Payment' or 'Unpresented Cheque'. The bank statement showed a $30 account fee that the business owner had not yet recorded in their manual cashbook. The reconciliation process identifies this fee and adjusts the cash book balance downwards. Once these timing differences and missing entries are accounted for, both the adjusted bank balance and the adjusted cash book balance match at $5,250.00.
