Drug and Alcohol Policy
Company Name: Apex Constructions Pty Ltd Effective Date: 1 July 2023
1. Purpose
The purpose of this policy is to ensure a safe workplace. Apex Constructions is committed to eliminating risks associated with alcohol and drugs at work. We want everyone to go home safely.
2. Scope
This policy applies to all Apex Constructions staff. This includes tradespeople, labourers, site managers, and office staff. It also applies to contractors and subcontractors on our sites.
3. Rules and Obligations
3.1 Alcohol
You must not drink alcohol during work hours. This includes lunch breaks. You must not come to work drunk. Our limit is zero. If you have a breath test, it must be 0.00%.
3.2 Drugs
You must not use illegal drugs at work. You must not be under the influence of drugs at work. We have a zero tolerance policy.
3.3 Medication
If you take strong painkillers or other medication that makes you drowsy, tell your supervisor. Do not operate machinery if you are drowsy.
4. Testing
We conduct random testing on all sites. We use oral fluid tests. A third party nurse comes to the site unannounced.
If you are involved in an accident, you must take a test. If a manager thinks you are affected by drugs or alcohol, you must take a test.
Refusing to take a test is the same as testing positive.
5. Consequences
If you test positive, we will investigate. If you broke the rules, you may lose your job. If you have a drug problem, we can help you get counselling. But you cannot work on site until you are cleared.
