1. Introduction

Smithsons Plumbing Services provides plumbing installation across Queensland. We use heavy vehicles to transport tools and materials. This plan sets out how we manage fatigue to keep our drivers safe and comply with HVNL.

2. Responsibilities

3. Risk Assessment

We drive long distances between Brisbane and regional sites. The main risk is driving home late at night after a 12 hour shift.

4. Control Measures (The Rules)

Work and Rest Limits

We operate under Standard Hours.

• Maximum work time in a day: 12 hours.
• Minimum continuous rest break: 7 hours.
• 24 hour break must be taken after 72 hours of work.

Scheduling

• No jobs are booked to start before 6am.
• If a job runs past 6pm, the driver stays in commercial accommodation overnight rather than driving home.

Journey Management

• Drivers must take a 15 minute break every 2 hours of driving.

5. Training

All drivers complete the NHVR Heavy Vehicle Driver Handbook on their first day.

6. Record Keeping

John Smith checks the work diary every Friday afternoon. Diaries are kept in the office filing cabinet.
