Psychosocial Hazard Risk Management Policy

1. Policy Statement

Apex Construction Group is committed to providing a safe and healthy workplace for all staff and contractors. We believe mental health is just as important as physical safety. We will comply with the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW) to eliminate or minimise psychosocial risks.

2. Purpose

The purpose of this policy is to ensure we identify and manage hazards that could cause psychological harm, such as stress, bullying, and fatigue.

3. Scope

This policy applies to all employees, subcontractors, and apprentices working on Apex Construction sites and in the office.

4. Roles and Responsibilities

Site Manager:

  • Monitor site culture and behaviour.
  • Address aggressive behaviour immediately.
  • Ensure rosters allow for adequate rest breaks.

Workers:

  • Look out for their mates.
  • Report bullying or fatigue to the Site Manager.
  • Follow the fatigue management procedures.

5. Identification of Hazards

Specific hazards for Apex Construction include:

  • Working at heights causing stress.
  • Time pressure from clients leading to rushing.
  • Exposure to violent behaviour by members of the public.
  • Isolated work during night shifts.

6. Control Measures

We will implement the following controls:

  • Fatigue: Maximum shift lengths of 10 hours. Minimum 12-hour break between shifts.
  • Bullying: Zero tolerance policy. Immediate disciplinary action for breaches.
  • Trauma: Debriefing sessions after critical incidents.

7. Reporting

Workers can report issues to the Site Manager, Sarah Jenkins, or call the anonymous whistleblower hotline. All reports are confidential.

Notes
